SHOTCRETE & GUNITE

Shotcrete is an all-inclusive term to describe the spraying of concrete or mortar that may be accomplished through either a dry- or wet-mix process. Gunite refers only to the dry-mix process in which the dry cementitious mixture is blown through a hose to the nozzle, where the water is injected immediately prior to application.

Both methods are compatible with Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete technology.

“Shotcreting” using steel fibres is being successfully employed in the construction of Domes, Ground Level Storage Tanks, Caverns, Tunnel Linings, Mines, Rock Slope Stabilisation and repair and retrofitting of deteriorated surfaces and concrete. Steel fibre reinforced shotcrete is substantially superior in toughness index and impact strength compared to plain concrete or mesh reinforced shotcrete.

In many countries including India, steel fibre shotcrete has been successfully used in the construction of several railway and penstock tunnels as well as for Stabilisation of slopes.

Tunnel Linings

Steel fibre reinforced shotcrete is a composite of cement, aggregates, water, steel fibres and plasticizers, which is sprayed through a compressed air nozzle on the surface.

Shotcrete is applied:

  • Without formwork
  • For consequent layers

Final Lining by Cast or Pumped in Situ Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete:

Steel fibre reinforced concrete to be used in the tunnel final lining is cast or pumped directly inside the formworks. It can be used in final lining....

  • When the lining has requirements of tensile and flexural stresses in the concrete
  • To avoid or optimize the traditional steel bars reinforcement
